Haters Gonna Hate!
So what if your family doesn't support you doing keto???
That basically mean you're living in a house full of haters who don't want you to get healthy! RIGHT???
Well I KNOW that's not what's going on but it's that's exactly what it feels like sometimes since you've started keto!
Whether you've been on keto for years or you're just getting started, it doesn't matter! It always seems to bother the people closest to us that we're “choosing” this lifestyle!
So how do you handle it when the people who are nearest and dearest to you poke fun at you. Or even worse… when they make little snide comments because you're doing keto?
Well of course you could ignore them but I've tried that before and it normally doesn't stop them! The reason why is because they actually think they're helping you!
Don't Ignore Them Include Them!
So instead of ignoring them – start including them! When friends and family are coming by I fix foods that I KNOW they love… but that's been ketofied!
Because of course… if you haven't seen our recipe books yet, I ketofy EVERYTHING!
So instead of my making my normal chicken enchiladas, they get my ketofied low carb chicken enchiladas!
Or when they come by I'll have a pan of my now famous low carb walnut keto fudge on the counter and like the tens of thousands of other people who have tried it, once they taste it they're hooked!

Just One Bite Won't Kill You!
I'm sure you've heard that before haven't you?
When you're on keto, it can be hard going out to eat with friends and family, especially for celebrations, and having to spend so much time on the menu so you can stay on track!
Especially when you know once you get there you'll hear things like “just taste bite,” or “one piece won’t kill you.”
The truth is most of the time they don't really understand how keto works and while one bite won't kill you, it can totally throw you out of ketosis!
So what can you do?
Pick the place you're going to eat that's keto friendly! And if you can't pick the place you're going to eat, find out where you're going in advance and review the menu online.
If they don't have anything that you can eat, call the restaurant ahead of time and ask if they can customize something from the menu for you.
If YES – GREAT! And if NOT…
PLAN AHEAD!
Make sure they have something you can eat such as steamed veggies, a salad or something! Then eat before you go. Or grab a small plate of what they have on the menu and just go to be social!
Yes it will take some serious will power to stay the course. Especially while everyone around you is eating foods that you use to eat! But if you plan ahead you will be less tempted!
When All Else Fails
If you've tried all of the suggestions above, and none of them work then I have one that will… LECTURE THEM!
Pull out your phone and starting teaching them EVERYTHINGyou know about keto!
Or for a more dramatic effect – ask them to see their phone and proceed to show them everything you know about keto on their phone as you hold it hostage!
Now one of two things will happen…
You will either convert them over to our side! YES! Score one for #TeamKeto!
OR…
They will get so sick of hearing you talk about macros, fats, carbs and proteins. Or what you should or shouldn't eat or all of the really cool keto phrases you're learned from being part of our KetoCoach For Women Community (wink wink).
And of course they REALLY don't want you to get started on all of the health benefits!
Chances are that once you mention all of that to them, they will just excuse themselves from the conversation and you will never, ever, ever have to worry about them discussing keto with you ever again!
What If They Live With You?
Now if they live with you, the answer is actually a lot simpler than you think!
Cook meals that everyone will enjoy!
A typical meal in my house might be stuffed bell peppers.
I mix up the ingredients and before I cook it I add rice to the ones that I'm making for my husband!
Or if I make jerk chicken, I serve it with a side of grilled veggies and rice. Of course I skip the rice but it's not hard to stay keto. Just make food that everyone loves and focus on enjoying your time together!
Remember… keto is a lifestyle! Maybe in the beginning they won't understand your WHY but after time, your family and friends will see all of your hard work and will encourage you to keep going!
Who knows… after a while they may even all decide to join you on your keto journey!
If you have some tips or suggestions you'd like to add on how to handle friends and family I'd love to hear them so make sure you leave them below or feel free to join our KetoCoach For Women Community and share them with us there!
