Unless you've been living under a rock, you're probably already aware that sugar is everywhere you look!
What's even more shocking is that it usually pops up in some of the most surprising places!
For example… did you know that most of the whole grain breads you see in the store have at least one type of sugar in them?
And whole grain bread is suppose to be good for you – RIGHT?
The Sugar Epidemic

In the United States we have a serious sugar addiction!
Even if you don't eat a ton of sugar in its purest form, if you're like most women then you probably experience intense sugar cravings occasionally!
When you first start keto, the sugar cravings can seriously be INTENSE!
It's one of the reasons why I tell my coaching clients to keep some fat bombs near by when they first get started.
The reason why it's so hard to get rid of the sugar cravings is because for YEARS we've been lied to.
We have been told that the healthy foods we've been eating, such as whole grain bread, was good for us when in reality it has tons of hidden sugars in them.
So Why Does Any Of This Matter?

Well it matters because the moment you stop eating these processed foods your body misses them and once you decide to give them up for good, your body will go through sugar withdrawal.
And while sugar may taste good to you, we all know it's not good for you!

The issue with sugar is when you're following a high carb diet, your body heavily relies on sugar for its energy.
You see… your blood sugar is tied to your energy level and as a result, it's connected to your overall health.
So when your blood sugar drops down too low, that's when you'll begin to experience those intense cravings.

Higher blood sugar is a result of eating high sugar or high carb meals.
And when you eat a lot of sugar, it's only natural that your blood sugar increases to higher levels.
When this happens, your pancreas thinks there is something wrong and as a result will secrete insulin to decrease your blood sugar.
And if this continues to happen over a period of time, then you put yourself at higher risk of becoming diabetic because over time your pancreas becomes worn out and eventually it will not be able to rid itself of the excess insulin.

Fortunately, getting started on the keto diet can help you get rid of your sugar cravings!
Now let me warn you… once you start keto it doesn't mean that your sugar cravings will automatically just go away!
Sugar is everywhere and sometimes the temptation is hard to fight!
That's why below I'll share some tips with you on how you can plan in advance and resist the urge to eat food that's not keto approved!
So Exactly How Do You Get Rid Of Your Sugar Cravings???

The best way to make sure you stay in control of your sugar cravings is by planning what you eat in advance.
If you're following keto then it's important that eat enough fat, protein, and healthy fibers.
If you do this daily then it help prevent those drops in your blood sugar that lead to sugar cravings.
Also, another thing is not only does what you eat matter… when you eat matters too!
Try not to go too long between meals without eating.
Snacks are a really important part of keeping your blood sugar stable.

At all time, try to keep some keto friendly snacks on hand like cheese, nuts, seeds or boiled eggs so if you feel the temptation to grab a sugary snack, you can quickly stabilize your blood sugar so that the craving goes away!
Another thing that you should be aware of is that sugar cravings can also be a sign of a more serious issue such as a nutritional deficiency.
For example, when you are low on magnesium, your body will crave chocolate and other sweets.
And if your body is low on nutrients, then you will almost certainly get cravings!
That's why it's important to take a really good multivitamin that's high in zinc and chromium because they both help with curbing with those sugar cravings.
Another thing you can do when sugar cravings hit it to simply brush your teeth!

I know it sounds crazy simple but it works!
Many women on keto have told me that brushing their teeth or using Listerine breath strips have helped them with their cravings.
Sowhy does this work???
The answer is actually a lot simpler than you can imagine!
They both numb your mouth and prevent you from wanting to eat.
Also drinking two large glasses of water can also help eliminate cravings… because as you have probably heard before, sometimes we're not really hungry… we're simply thirsty and our bodies don't know the difference!
And drinking water makes you full, so if your stomach is full, then chance are that you'll be less likely to eat or reach for a sugary treat.
Another simple but effective approach is out of sight, out of mind!
For example, if you ever you find yourself dealing with cravings while you are at home – get moving!
Exercise is a great way to take your mind off of eating because sometimes we're not hungry… we're just BORED!

So when this happens, try going outside and taking a brief walk!
It doesn't need to be anything long but the distraction will help you forget all about your sugar craving in no time!
Another thing you can do is jump on a call with a good friend!
Calling a friend for support or logging into our KetoCoach For Women Support Community can also go a long way toward preventing you from caving into your sugar cravings.
